James Halliday's Top 10 Dark Horse Wineries for 2020

We are super duper thrilled to be celebrated as one of James Halliday's Top 10 Dark Horse Wineries for 2020!

Our commitment to great value and expressive wines is now appreciated from Lahti in Finland to Ipoh in Malaysia. In 5 star hotels in London and seedy dens in Berlin, our wines are providing inspiration wherever good people gather round the table, the kitchen and the bar to tell tall tales while others look on in disbelief. Where scientific ground is broken, literary masterpieces penned and great musical scores orchestrated. All over a glass or two of Plan B! wine.

As always, our dedication to bringing you our free range wines, free of corporate taint remains our life’s work. If you can call it work. It’s as close as we get to it.

So, who are we?

Terry Chellappah - The Wine Minstrel

Terry Chellappah ~ The Wine Minstrel

It was famously written a few years ago that Terry hadn’t achieved much in wine, despite many misadventures along the way. Around that time, he was also quoted as saying “I hope the Plan B! Project turns things around.” To call him a wine visionary would be ridiculous. Terry is the proprietor and founder of Plan B! Wines, runs the business, and pretty much does everything except the winemaking and viti, as there isn’t really anyone else to do it all.

He finds the time for this in between rocking the bass guitar, and researching bars. He is much better at one than the other.

Vanessa Carson - The Wine Juggler

Vanessa Carson ~ The Wine Juggler

Vanessa has been with Plan B! Wines since 2016, and has made a wonderful impact on our wines both in terms of quality, personality and extending our range to include some super interesting and distinctive wine styles.

Since graduating as Dux from Winemaking School in 1999, Vanessa has been busy working in Italy, France and of course here in Australia in the key Western Australian appellations of Frankland River, Margaret River and most recently the beautiful Ferguson Valley overlooking the ocean just north of Margaret River.

Vanessa has also managed to concurrently prioritise bringing up 3 kids; Harry, Katie and Miles whilst juggling far flung vineyard visits , tastings and winemaking. Clearly, she is The Wine Juggler.

In what used to be her her spare time, Vanessa appreciated a good podcast, listening to Jazz and has a keen interest in Brutalist Architecture.
